Background and Credentials

Claire began her legal career in Colorado in 2009 after earning both her journalism degree and law degree from the University of Missouri; where she graduated with top honors. While in school, she rose to the top of the national arbitration circuit — taking second place at nationals and developing skills that would shape her courtroom style.

Early in her career, Claire worked on some of the most difficult criminal defense cases imaginable — including sexual assault defense and even a wrongful death case involving police brutality. That experience shaped her deeply, and today, she brings both strength and sensitivity to every client she represents.

Ms. Elster was recently awarded a Top 10 Under 40 in Criminal Defense by NACDA (National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys). Judges, District Attorneys and defense colleagues alike, all know and respect Ms. Elster for her straight-forward, professional and dedicated conduct both inside and outside the courtroom. Ms. Elster always puts her clients’ goals first, working tirelessly to achieve a just and favorable outcome for each and every person she represents.

She’s also a proud coach of her local high school mock trial team — a way she gives back to the legal community and supports the next generation of advocates.

1-on-1 Representation That Stands Out

Claire does something that many attorneys don’t — she answers her own phone, handles her own cases, and refuses to delegate your future to someone else.

I’m a control freak — but in the best way. I don’t trust anyone else to do it right, so I do it myself. And that’s what my clients deserve.

Clients often describe Claire as someone who makes them feel human again, even when facing the worst days of their lives. She’s equal parts counselor, strategist, and straight shooter — the kind of attorney who won’t sugarcoat your situation but also won’t let you face it alone.

More Than a Defense Attorney - A Fierce Advocate for Real People

Meet Claire M. Elster, Defense Attorney and Advocate

Claire Elster didn’t always plan on being a criminal defense attorney. In fact, she first dreamed of working in family law — until she saw how often the system was used as a weapon between people who once loved each other. Looking for a way to make a real difference, she found her path in criminal defense. What she discovered was a profession that let her fight for people when they’re at their most vulnerable — and offer them a way through.

Since opening Elster Law Office in 2018, Claire has built her practice around one simple principle: every person deserves to be treated like a person, no matter what they’re accused of.

Her Approach To Law

Claire describes her legal philosophy as “zealous advocacy.” That means she puts 100% of her time, energy, and focus into every case — no shortcuts, no passing you off to an assistant. She’ll walk you through your options, answer every question honestly, and fight hard for the best outcome possible — whether that’s avoiding jail time, keeping your license, or protecting your future.

I’m not a wizard. I can’t make things disappear overnight. But I will fight like hell to help you come through this with your dignity and your future intact.

When She’s Not in Court

Outside the courtroom, Claire finds peace on mountain trails, walking her dog, or heading off-grid in her travel trailer with her husband. Hiking, she says, is how she stays grounded.

You can’t help other people if your own tank is empty. For me, that balance is key.
